PR 101: hyping it up, typing it up!

Hiya, Ladies!

Thank you for reading my first two blog posts and give me some feedbacks. It was such an amazing welcome to this blog-sphere. Anyway, writing about all the gushing and talking on Naked palette makes me wonder… how in the world Urban Decay could be successfully getting us ladies all hyped up towards ALL those four palettes?! Well, other than its quality and it’s just us that crazy about make up, I think they have a really good PR programme. Oh yes, this is my other post of having the perks as a PR girl: always thinking everything in PR way. Ha.

Well, shout out to all the beauty darlings on this blog-sphere! I think you guys have all the works here. With all those followers and network you have, of course you have an important part of UD succession on Naked palette hype from your review. Let’s break it down…

UD Naked 3 Review from Vivianna Does Makeup

I think, what’s happening here can be described in PR theory of endorsement. However, the issue right now has change! Yes, previously, endorsement is all about celebrity. But now, all the company (or brand) has started to keep their eyes on bloggers. It was all started when blog become a thing several years ago. We didn’t realise it back then, but, yeah, bloggers, right now, have the same influence as the A-listers! And this is what makes companies and brands interested to us. We could help them enhance their products’ promotion, or, even better, sales.

It’s not an easy task, though. Endorsement is not like we’re doing advertising.. well, sort of, but not really. So, if you think the PR officer from a brand paying a blogger to write something nice about their product, sorry honey, you’re wrong. If you do it that way, I don’t think it would work as people nowadays have become really critical about everything. They would know that it was just some kind of a favourable message. What people want to see is an honest review from the blog, seeing if this or that products is gonna worth their money or attention. So, I think, what is really happening now is, a brand made a giveaway for the tester of their product to bloggers… aaaand, it is how you can convince them to review your product. Bloggers are busy too, you know.

Other than that, I think social media also made its magic here. UD is known to be so advance on their PR 2.0 programme. This season, they made an Instagram contest for the launching of Naked 3. But, I won’t talk about it further here.. maybe next time.

1D Day and its Perks in PR

Before I start it all, I just want to say… put all those judgy eyes away from me! Yes, I’m a fan of these five British babes. Yes, I love their music. So what, big deal.

Okay, moving on…

As a One D fans, of course you know that they really care and appreciate their fans. Quoting the famous word from Mr. Grey, they aim to please. Ha. So, in order to celebrate their new album, the boys invited all of the fans (and other people who, maybe, secretly a fans or in a denial stage) to join them on a 7 hours long live streaming on YouTube. Oh, cheers! They know that we have been asking so, so many times for them to continue their video diary – just like what they did on the X-Factor era.

Having to know that there’s going to be a 7 hours long with them, all I did was… SQUEAL. I was so excited. No, I was beyond excited. Lol. But then I realise… This is a PR/marketing thing. Oh the perks of being a PR girl… noticing and connecting everything as a PR campaign. Lol. But, really though. HQ, you did a great job on this. This event is a PR tactic to engage with their fans to build supports for their new album, although their main purposes are to get more buzz on the launch of their new album and more sales. Here, I will break down my PR analysis regarding this event from my previous essay on uni. Yes, they were my case study on my essay. I swear I’m not that obsessed?

Tactic, according to Smith (2013), is part of the tangible element of strategic communication. It is considered as the participation that is done by the target audience, on this instance is an online special event. In this matter, One Direction also choose social media to support its campaign. They uses Twitter and Facebook to enlighten all the fans and ask them to join The 1D Day and participate on sending some ideas of challenge that ‘the boys’ could do. One Direction and their team choose this tactic for the interactivity that could bring them closer to their fans.

Furthermore, One Direction and their rep targeted the fans as their main audience. The group’s fanatics are mostly youngsters that are acquainted with online interaction, therefore they choose an online broadcast tactic on Livestream. In addition, using social media as their tactic also help them to reach all of their fans, as they have a huge amount of fans that spread in around the world. A media relations also being used on this project, as One Direction’s PR team cooperate with some radio to help promote this event and do a competition to win a chance to be on the Livestream along with the group.

Additionally, with this event helps the group to maintain their relationship with their fans. It is also help ‘the boys’ to maintain their image and reputation as a group music that care and appreciate its fans. Lastly, this event makes people, particularly One Direction die-hard fans, anticipating the new album launching even more excitedly.

How to get Naked

I know you already hear all the news about Urban Decay announcement to welcome its fourth collection of Naked palette series this November. Excited? I am! In this collection, UD has choose a pinkish colour theme, which is really sweet-looking and has a little romantic ambiance on the palette. But while we’re gushing and squealing over the cuteness of this season’s shadows, why don’t we take a look back to their previous collections? If we share the same money problems, well, we shall see if this beauty is fit to what we are looking ! You know, so many things to buy but so little money…

This beauty babe here, is the first palette that UD released. Well, during this time, I have not really pay attention to all these excitements in make up world. However, I have manage to take a look of this collection during the release of Naked 2. I was literally struck at the moment when I look at the Naked 2 shadow palette.. I mean, which girl who won’t drool over a neutral colour shadow palette?! So, I compare those two to see which was suitable for me back then. I was curious since the first Naked palette seems to be every beauty-blogger favourite palette. Having them both on my hands and swapped all the colours, I conclude that Naked 2 is the best choice for me.

The first Naked palette, for me, is too glittery. I want a palette that I could use, both, on glamour look and on the daily basis. I also am not the type of a girl who have a gut to wear a really glammy make up. I strive to look simple and modest. Although, I really like the complexion of this palette. It has a really bold shades, when you try it on.

On the contrary, Naked 2 has a more subtle colour shades.

As you can see on the picture above, the colour in Naked 2 palette seems to be more subtle. It has a really chocolatey, earthy shades.. which is perfect for me! I could use it in daily basis or on a special event. When I want to look a bit casual, I could use the lighter colours on the left; Foxy or Booty Call. But if I want my eye make up to be look a little bit defined, I could add Tease to make a slight smokey effect. Then, if I want to have a bold look, I could always use the darker colour. Even better, the Naked 2 palette also included a double make up brush; for the eye shadow and a blender blush. Perfect!

Seeing the success of those two Naked palette, Urban Decay then made another go with this make up line… this time is for a little matte – still in neutral shades. But I won’t talk much about Naked Basics, since I think this palette is a bit dull. Well, in the previous collection we already have a matte shades… so I think it would not be necessary to buy it. Shop smartly, no?

Lastly, the long awaited review… Naked 3!

Many beauty darlings seems to be a little skeptical about this new palette. I mean, how much do you think you need a neutral colour palette? …right? Or not! Personally, I think this colour range is different from the previous three. It’s warmer, and it’s pink (Sorry, I just really like pink!). So, I would definitely go pre-order this one. Now. Or if you have a little bit patience, you could wait ’til it hits your nearest beauty stores in mid December!
